CEMS Explorer Series 3rd edition

The third edition of the CEMS Career Explorer Series took place on April 24th, with the support of NUS Business School. During this new initiative, students had the opportunity to gather numerous information relevant to working in Singapore.

This event began with the wonderful participation of Julynn Liang and Julia Yew. Julynn Liang is a Career Advisor with BIZCareers at NUS Business School. Julia Yew is part of the BIZCareers, Global Careers Team at NUS Business School, looking after outreach and partnerships with global employers and industry relations for experienced students enrolled in the Masters and MBA programmes.

During a 1-hour informative session, Julynn and Julia addressed the employment landscape in Singapore, including key industries, working culture, visa, taxation and early career opportunities for CEMS graduates.

Following this insightful overview, they shared key tips about working in Singapore, including on:

  • Critical core skills required by employers: thinking critically, interacting with others and staying relevant. Employers have been increasing their demand for specific soft skills.

Julynn and Julia went through a lengthy Q&A with over 35 participants and explained the reality of finding a role in Singapore. They finished the presentation by sharing tips on how to prepare for a career in Singapore, shared recruitment timeline and websites.

In addition to this session, students had the opportunity to attend a rotational chat with 3 CEMS alumni working and living in Singapore. This casual format not only allowed CEMSies to connect and contributed to strengthening the ties in the CEMS community but also allowed seasoned alumni to broaden participants’ knowledge about their companies.
